Film & debate evening “ZUID” at CBK

June 4, 2010

In our series on film & debate evenings on urban issues the next event is coming up!

Friday June 11th at 19hrs at the CBK Rotterdam, Nieuwe Binnenweg 75

The film ZUID is part of the interdisciplinary project Moving in Free Zones #2 which is researching and creating awareness on the urban redevelopment of Charlois, a district in the South of Rotterdam. The film (25min) gives an intimate portrait of inhabitants of Charlois. Due to massive economical interests and speculation on this particular neighborhood – with a strategical position facing the port – never had the right to decide about their living conditions nor participated in the development of their district and their city. The intention of the film is to give ordinary life in Charlois the right to exist, and to give face to anonymous citizens.

Moving in Free Zones is a project by iStrike.ultd in collaboration with the filmmaker Jacopo Gandolfi, Urban Body/TU Delft and local inhabitants. During the production of the film, local inhabitants have been asked to re-enact their lives in the neighborhood by means of a special improvisation technique called “devising”. More information here.

After the screening there will be a discussion with the film maker Lucia Babina and a local inhabitant as well as other researchers and project makers from Rotterdam South. A current project in the neighborhood Tarwewijk will be introduced. Of course, afterwards there is the possibility to socialize at the bar. We hope to see you next Friday!
